In early June 2014, the trans-continental Internet conference “The Russian Language in the Dialogue of Cultures” (hereinafter referred to as the Conference) was held in Perm. The conference was held on the initiative of the Eurasian Dialogue at the Russian Parliamentary European Club with the support of the federal agency Rossotrudnichestvo, the government of the Perm Region, with the participation of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, the Russian Book Union and the Writers’ Union of Russia. The conference covered a vast geographical area from Antarctica (Russian was the first language heard in these places) to India, from Lisbon to Vladivostok.
Representatives of 17 countries of the world visited Perm directly. Scientists, writers, translators, politicians, public figures, journalists, artists and cultural figures, graduate students and students agreed that Russian rightfully occupies one of the leading places among the world languages and is an integral part of world culture, and also has indisputable potential as a language of international communication in the XXL century.
The conference took place at a significant time – the Russian Year of Culture, the 200th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov, on the eve of Russia Day, as well as on the eve of the launch The first pan-European festival marathon.
